The only reason this system doesn’t get Five stars is because it doesn’t decode DTS no biggy now but next year the next generation consoles will come out and ps2 and the next Nintendo console will be DTS exclusive, most likely pro logic two as well. As well, when a dvd player is connected via RCA cables, the max volume gets deafening enough, but you can not push it for more. I haven’t tried to hook up the dvd player via coaxial digital input, that may help with the volume level. As well, I have heard that by purchasing better speaker wire like 16 gauge may help you pump up the volume. I wouldnt recommend this for a living room. You have to use up at least 300 to get something deafening enough for a bigger room buy a Yamaha, theyre awesome. But, for a bedroom or apartment or dorm room, this is pretty good. A nice feature with this unit is the capability to replace speaker wires and speakers. Many cheaper systems under 200 have wires built into the speakers like the Sony 420 watt HDDw660’s subwoofer. I should also note that on the most pwerful bass setting, this system thumps nearly also as my yamaha but not quite. For a test dvd I usually use the following 3: 1the beach sequence of Saving Private Ryan every time an artillery shell drops on the beach, my subwoofer producers a nice deafening boom, and the camera shakes. Now to me, it is timed so perfectly it is nearly as if my subwoofer booming is what is making the camera shake, nice touch here, the costly Sharp sdat1000 500 list price can not produce bass like this, 2 Black Hawk Down rangers and delta entering ‘the Mog’. It is awesome to hear “RPG!” being yelled then FEELING the bass from my sub. The end of this movie is good for testing bass, go to the part where the Little Birds are doing their straffing runs all night long, its great, 3 The Eye a little recognized Japanese horror movie that has the creepiest audio in any movie ever, forget the Ring, forget the Grudge. I use the part at the beginning with the old lady in the hallway saying ‘im freezing’, its pretty awesome on this surround system and its comparable to my yamaha sorta. Bottom line, if you may be able to live without DTS decoding, this is a good system for only around 150 or so.

I should note that this system just feels and looks well made, particularly when in comparison to other cheaper systems. The speakers seem as if they’re built well and have a nice weight to them, they dont feel cheap and plasticy. The receiver looks quality. It has oodles of inputs and outputs. All cheaper surround systems have to skimp someplace. This RCA system only skimps on DTS decoding and max volume level which should be rectified with bigger wires. Most cheaper systems skimp on inputs/outputs and the quality of the speaker package Sony, Sharp, etc.. I’d much rather have a system that lacks DTS and doesnt go to “blow my speakers” volume level.

    Great Buy,

    REAL NAME
    &nbsp,&nbsp,

I had read all the reviews before putting my order for this RCA Surround Sound system. In spite of the not many negative remarks that are there, the nice price and product image compelled me to give it a attempt. I’m happy to say that I have now set up the unit in my home and the performance surely exceeds my expectations. My opinion is as follows:

As I had suspected, it does get a bit complicated to properly connect many parts that have different capacities requiring different kinds of cables optical and part video, DTS, digital coaxial, versus analog audio, etc.To this and Truthfully any other Surround system, so the negative reviewers may just have had bad setups. You can not generally easily tell because this RCA will work, to many extent, if it isn’t properly set up and the user manual is rather indistinct on many complex issues.

Additionally, there are two minor drawbacks:

    1. The receiver doesn’t have any part Video jacks so I had to get S Video cables, unless you own costly HDTv or Plasma, etc, from which you could want top performance, S Video technology works just good and still offers a much better picture than the standard coaxial cables.

    2. There’s only one headset jack and it is in the front of the receiver. Since I use a wireless sound cancelling headset all the time, I had to get an adapter to make the Audio L & R fit into the one micro jack. For people who have to connect more than one headset, they had adaptors splitters for that also. Though the adaptor only cost about $4 at Radio Shack, I could have favored to see more than one headset jack, and at least one on the rear of the unit as wireless headsets have their own wireless receivers that must be connected and I do not find front panel jacks particluarly attractive/decorative on anything.

The only other issue was that the video cable that has been supposed to be included in the box missed and I hate repackaging and returning this kind of item because it could be a big hassle. To my pleaseant surprise, now resolved the problemthat’s the great service we shop here forand I just went and bought a cable at Sears.

Overall, considering the $145 price that will include speakers and cables, the working features, and the quality sound of this unit in comparison to other units that are two or three times as costly and up I give this product four stars. One star was subtracted for the inadequacies of the user manual and the missing cable.

In closing, the missing features portrayed above may really be blessings for those who live in apartments or who have peripheral equipment/components that are more than some months old, because, unless you live in a football field, you most probably don’t need a 1000 watt system, and if your TV and DVD player don’t come with optical video, etc., having those features on your surround receiver will most probably only make everything malfunction or fail to function completely.

I bought one of these and had to return it because the unit could freeze while playing or could refuse to turn on. I found through an internet search that many people have had this problem. I afterward bought the RCA RT2390 and it’s nearly the same unit, with a better subwoofer and no receiver problems.

  • Mac OS X or Windows 2000 and XP compatible, FireWire and USB 2.0 interface for fastest digital move available
  • Comes with earbud headphones and USB 2.0 cable dock not included
  • Apple Ipod White Click Wheel 20GB MP3 Player M9282LL/A (4th Generation) Description:
Incorporating the fabulous Apple Click Wheel that was 1st presented on iPod mini. Offering up to twelve hours of battery life. Weighing in at just 5.6 ounces. And to get somewhat thinner with each new generation. IPod continues to define the perfect digital music player for Mac and Windows.

A musical dream come true, the fourth generation iPod offers big capacity, letting you easily slip up to 10,000 songs into your pocket. And enjoy it wherever you go. In the car. On the treadmill. At the office. Around the house. In fact, the new fourth generation iPod will include features that make it easier to access and have fun with your music. Take, as an example, the Apple Click Wheel. With the Click Wheel, you may be able to choose playlists, scroll through a long list of albums or artists and decide just the song you want to hear without ever lifting your thumb from the wheel. Feel like mixing things up? Now you may be able to decide “,Shuffle Songs”, right from the major iPod menu. We think you’,ll also enjoy iPod’,s long battery life up to twelve hours. And with the 25 minutes of skip protection iPod gives, you may be able to jump for delight and the music will keep playing.

A Click in the Right Direction
IPod now incorporates the same touch sensitive Apple Click Wheel that debuted on iPod mini. Without lifting that trusty thumb of yours from the wheel, you may be able to easily choose playlists, scroll through thousands of songs, and start the music playing. Want that song to play from the beginning again? A single click will do the trick. Do the iPod Shuffle
You may be able to put the Apple Click Wheel to use the next time you want to set your music to shuffle. Right there on the major menu where it’,s easy to find you’,ll find a new choice Shuffle Songs. Everyone’,s favorite choice for mixing things up, Shuffle Songs randomly plays songs in a selected playlist or your complete music collection. You’,ll never guess what’,s coming up next, so you’,re generally surprised by startling juxtapositions like a melodic Coldplay song setting up an aria by Caballé,. Play Your Music for Hours…,and Hours
And you may be able to shuffle your way through many of songs now that iPod lets you play your music for up to twelve hours on a single battery charge. Imagine: you could fly from New York to Paris and still have hours of listening time left over as you stroll the Champs Elys&eacute,e. While you’,re on the move, iPod keeps you aware of its charge level, and when it’,s time, iPod’,s fast to recharge. Plug it into your computer or a useful wall socket via the included power adapter, and you may be able to fast charge iPod in as little as two hours. Music and More
But, guess what iPod allows you to do more than listen to music. More. IPod gives you with up to 40 GB of storage. True, you’,re probably to use a good part of that storage capacity for your music and audio books, but you’,re bound to have a little space left over. You may be able to use the FireWire or USB 2.0 cable that comes with iPod to connect the iPod to your computer and copy files. Word papers. Keynote presentations. Excel spreadsheets. Photoshop files. You name it. Apple’s fourth generation iPod features song shuffling from the major menu, also as Calendar, Games, and Alarm functionality. Where am I at two p.M. Tuesday?
If you’,ve ever forgotten a dental appointment, you’,ll be happy to hear that iPod also allows you to take your calendar with you. Many applications iCal, Microsoft Entourage and Palm Desktop, to name some export calendar files in vCalendar or iCalender formats, both of which iPod supports.

    Sorry, Wrong Number
Little black address books are so last millennium. Thanks to its support for industry standard vCard files, iPod allows you to store and access all your vital contact info names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses with the turn of a Click Wheel.

    Play Games
You know what they say about all work and no play. Navigate to Extras and you’,ll find Games: Music Quiz, Solitaire, Brick and Parachute, four liked games you may be able to play anywhere like when you’,re waiting for the movie to start at the multiplex.

    Store Text Notes
You’,ve got playlists. You’,ve got To do Lists. And you may be able to carry both with you on iPod. IPod’,s Notes Reader allows you to take text based info like news downloaded off the web, stock info, your workout regimen, restaurant reviews, directions, your shopping list with you on your travels. Just move it via FireWire or USB 2.0 to iPod from your computer Mac or PC. Rise and Shine
Did you know that iPod has a sleep timer that allows you to fall asleep to music? It’,s true. And if you like to wake up to music or to the sound of an alarm clock, iPod is just as accommodating. You’,ll find settings for the Alarm Clock and Sleep Timer in the Extras menu. Both features work well, by the way, when you connect iPod to a pair of movable speakers.

This is my 1st IPod. It was generally the device people talked about so I decided to take the plunge. I have had it a week now and it’s easy to use and has great sound. There are lots of positive reveiws of the Ipod out there and my only comment is belive them.

One thing that I didn’t see mentioned anywhere till I got it was the firewire connrection is six pin. If you have a four pin connection commen to laptops and do not have USB two you’ll have to get an six to four pin adapter $2 $3 to synch your Ipod. It could be nice if Apple just threw this in.

    &nbsp,&nbsp,

UPDATE You can not use the Calendar, Notes, or many of the other functions like email, weather, or news story downloads without the software called “ipodsync”. It is about $15 from ipodlounge.Com or shareware.Com, and works like a charm. PC users ipodsync auto connects to Microsoft viewpoint. Cool and very easy to use. Wish it came with the ipod though. I’d recommend looking at it. UPDATE

I newly upgraded my Mp3 player from a 3+ year old Intel to this new 4G ipod. And all I can say is WOW!!!

But, the other reviews just RAVE about the good points, so I will concentrate more on what I do not like about it and some things I love.

First of all, there aren’t cases for it. No jogging clip, no nothing. Till something comes out that can accommodate the wheel, you must carry it. Something will most likely come out inside some months

The cool, shiny aluminum back is pretty, but I had mine for a great total of about thirty minutes before it was COVERED in fingerprints. Not a big deal, but the ipod starts to look shabby fast.

Also, the “hold” button that prevents you from pressing buttons when you do not mean to is REALLY hard to use. It is flush with the surface and it takes a fingernail to move. I have also found that with the ipod stuck in your pocket, the hold button on occasion moves back! Then your songs switch without warning.

Don’t purchase this thing for the games or the “notes”. They are silly add ons that a $50 pda can do MUCH MUCH better. But, the games are a great diversion.

One last thing lose the earphones. Something of such poor quality as those shouldn’t be in this box. Use up $10 at Walmart and get a better pair.

Some good points, though 1st and primary is that wheel. When I read “click wheel” I thought you really had to press buttons. NO! You just run your finger along it. , cool, if just for that.

The box is just fun to open. When you get yours, take a moment to take pleasure in.

The battery also works well. I have had mine on for eight nine hours with perfect sound the complete time.

Included USB2 and FireWire cables are nice. The fact it holds 5,000+ songs, cool. The fact that I uploaded my 800+ songs into the ipod in the time it took me to fill my old 128mb Mp3 player with the included USB2 cable? PERFECTION!

4/5 stars for the not many bad points listed above, also as for the fact that the ipod dock is not included like it’s in all 3G and the 40GB 4G ipod also available but GET ONE. It is worth every penny I DEFINATELY RECOMMEND THIS IPOD!

As for the 40GB vs the 20GB option? I’d say do not use up the extra $100 if you do not need it. 5,000 songs is many. I am a music aholic and I own only about .

    &nbsp,&nbsp,

though I tend to buy electronic fads quite quickly, the iPod somethed I did not jump into now. For two reasons, the complaints of last variants battery life and the second, being the price. Many of you who are most likely reading this have most likely perused ipodlounge and the reviews on to get an idea of which to buy among the range of music players out there. I am not going to give a review because as you may be able to see, there are quite some good reviews to read out there but possibly the reason why I gave in, may change your mind into buying the fourth generation iPod.

Longer battery life This is certainly vital for me. I read about tests going as far as 13 hours. That is just great! I need something that can last 6 8 hours a day.

Third Party Support though the 3rd party support is costly, I am not really sweating much because if you own a Mac and were used to purchasing software and hardware, you know how things are already. But there’s good third party support with the iPod which you do not really see for the other top high end digital music players. I was just stoked that I not have to deal with having an MP3 player and those cassette players to listen to in my car and get all tangled and stuff. To have a recharger let you to listen to your iTune via radio without that cassette adapter..cool!

Repute of the company Yeah, I am into trendy things and the fact that people are wanting to use up the extra money for convenience is great. For me, it is not more of the fad or the marketing campaign but the fact that I need something that integrates well with my choice of music store and music software which is iTunes. As well, reading about the crowds in Tokyo and a big magazine coverage over this device is really cool!

Bells and Whistles I like the fact that you may use the iPod as a storage device and 20 GB or 40 GB is great! There are games but I am not used to playing solitaire with the click wheel. If I wanted games on a movable system. That’s why I have my Power PC or GBA SP for. But the fact is.The extras of having to read text books, storage for files and also those games are pretty nifty.

Anyway, considering an iPod is a hard thing for people due to cost issue. It nagged me yesterday when I bought one. 20GB and accessories or 40 GB with dock and no accessories.Either way, I goed to use up $400+. Can you justify spending $400 on a music player? I realize that for the convenience, I could and it is been more than a day of owning a fourth Gen and I am happy.

Just a word to the wise that many stores are offering specials of trying to rid all of their older iPods and 3rd gen’s for the same price but with Applecare support or with more accessories. Do not do it. The new technology with the battery life of the fourth Gen is more than worth it and it is the same price for what they’re selling the older variants for sans the Applecare but I greatly recommend buying the fourth Gen note for newbies, fourth gens don’t have the vertical buttons under the screen /Also refer to this page if you need the model number of the fourth gen iPods: apple.Com/ipod/specs.Html

All in all, I am happy with this buy and if you’re a considering purchasing the 20 GB or 40 GB fourth gen IPOD, I really do believe it is a great choice.
