5.0 out of five stars The Lines Between iPod Touch and iPhone Have Started to Blur, September 7, 2010
By Scott Showalter “purefusion” (Ohio, USA) See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME) This review is from: Apple iPod touch 32GB (4th Generation) Black Current variant (Electronics) Having had a chance to use up a little time with a review model gives me a chance to share the experience with you a bit early (before my own arrives). I will take you hands on with the new model, plus I will share from my past two years of iPod touch ownership completely, particularly for those who have not still owned (or been owned by) one of these mobile gems.

I’ve also hidden a treasure trove of information on how you may be able to legitimately download tons of quality apps free of charge. 1st though, let us quickly cover what is new.

+ Faster 1GHz A4 Processor to keep up with the high demands of multitasking
+ super high resolution “Retina display” packs a 960 x 640 resolution at 326 pixels per inch
+ 15 bigger battery 3.44 Whr/930 mAh plays seven hrs of video & 40 hrs of audio
+ Rear facing camera supports 960 x 720 sized photos (0.6 megapixels), plus 720p HD videos
+ Front facing VGA quality camera VGA quality is a resolution of 640 x 480 (0.3 megapixels)
+ 3 Axis Gyroscope lets for higher precision and more motion gestures
+ Wireless N Connect faster and go farther than ever, with this WiFi device (requires a router with 802.11n)
+ fitted microphone but Apple reverted back to using the remote and mic less earphones
+ Game Center Apple’s own social gaming platform
+ Sleep/Power Button it is been moved to the right, but not improved beyond that
+ Thinner, lighter than ever
Note Memory remains at the same 256MB in spite of some number of unconfirmed resources touting 512MB. There is also no shake module.

Unlike last year’s iPod touch update, this one’s a complete overhaul to the complete line. Last year, the new models did not change in look. On the inside, faster processors and double memory were added to the 32GB & 64GB models, but the 8GB got left out. Not this time. Purchasing the new 8GB iPod touch indeed gets you all the new goodies. You will also pay thirty bucks more than before, so think about purchasing the 32GB model instead. You will get 400 of the storage capacity for only 23 more coin!

===== Background =====

I’m a mobile app developer who’s produced some apps and games for the iPhone, iPod Touch and now iPad. I was firstly drawn to the iPod touch due to popularity and potential of its mobile Web browsing I was mainly a Web developer at the time and no other device could surf the Web so well. After I got one, I has been hooked. I racked up over a hundred bucks in app purchases inside the 1st month, and before long, I found myself learning how do develop native apps for the device.

Indeed, if you have never had an iPod touch before, you are in for a real treat. Of course, if you have, then you know 1st hand: it is is worth its weight in gold no, in platinum. And now, with the new generation, it may be worth its weight rare gem stones! I digress.

===== Out With the Old =====

The iPod touch is usually called an iPhone without the phone. But, till now there have been some number of other features also missing in the iPod touch besides the phone: a camera, GPS, magnetometer (compass), and many newer amenities from the iPhone 4: front facing camera, high resolution “Retina display” as it was called, and the powerful 1GHz A4 processor indeed a need to keep up with multitasking.

That all changes, now. The fourth gen iPod touch brings with it many new features and amenities, many of which have been anticipated by iPod touch fans and developers alike, as well as myself, for some number of generations of the device. From a developer’s perspective, the more hardware features we can get our hands on, the better and more groundbreaking apps we can create, and the more users that can download, use and enjoy them.

===== In With the New =====

The striking new design of the new iPod touch is certainly a looker. Apple made it thinner (and I thought it was already too thin before) complete with a beautiful chrome back. While the super thin design is surely nice, I have found it somewhat hard to keep it gripped in your hands. The common chrome back looks great too, but it is scratch insistent. Yes, it is very easy to scratch it all up, after the 1st not many days. For these two reasons, certainly get yourself a silicone skin (amazon.Com/dp/B0042GVG5G?Tag=1pod 20&ie=UTF8) alongside your new touch!

For ages, the feature topping everyone’s wishlist for the iPod touch was a camera. Check! It handles HD video too bonus! Granted, its not the five megapixel camera that the iPhone four sports, but again, the new iPod touch is thinner than ever, making it a miracle that we got a camera in the 1st place, let alone two! Yes, Apple went the extra mile so we may make video calls with our iPhone toting friends, via their FaceTime app. Brilliant! having not had any camera on the iPod touch before, and now having TWO cameras on it, we can not really complain can we? Nah.

I’ll have details on the quality both cameras afterward, but what excites me moreso is the new much higher resolution screen dubbed “Retina display”. You may not think most of it if you have not used an iPhone or iPod touch before, nor have an older model close to compare it to, but for those that have or do, the difference is clear! (pun intended)

Where this really comes in useful is in browsing the Web and reading non mobile formatted PDF e books. Now, I can see things so much clearer at the default zoom level (which shows the full width of a Web page or document). My vision is not spectacular by any means, I just do not mind seeing things smaller on the screen. It lets me to see more content without having to scroll. Indeed, the Retina display was the #1 feature I never knew I wanted (until I saw it in the iPhone four that is).

Other newness includes: 15 bigger battery, HD video recording and editing, fitted mic, wireless n for almost double the WiFi connection speed and distance, Game Center: Apple’s new social gaming platform (which looks to be Apple’s try to kill off 3rd party social gaming platforms like OpenFeint and Plus+), 3 axis gyroscope sensor, which complements the present accelerometer sensor, both of which handle the rotating, swinging and other motion gestures of the device (previously, rotation were about calculated from accelerometer data), and new placement of the sleep/power button on the right (but still as hard as ever to press).

Features still missing include: 512MB of memory, vibration, five MP quality camera + flash (iPhone apps now support using LED flash as a flashlight, like Android does), magnetometer (compass), and the GPS. I’d happily trade the thinness of the new iPod touch to have the GPS. WiFi established place is frequently inaccurate, and the GPS does not need a WiFi or cellular connection, it just needs to see the satellites in the sky.

===== iOS vs Android =====

So far, Apple cornered the market of multitouch mobile devices that are not phones, but things are gradually changing. Now, the two hottest mobile and smartphone operating systems out there now are Apple’s iOS (formerly: iPhone OS) and Google’s Android. Of course, iOS is liked because it runs on not only the iPhone, but also on the iPod touch and now on the ipad also. Plus, it garnered support from many app developers who’ve gotten behind Apple’s slew of high demand devices.

The iPod touch has really made iOS what it’s today. It does many of what the iPhone does, without a contract, or carrier exclusivity, as is the case with the iPhone and the iPad (WiFi+3G models). If it were not for the iPod touch, many of the market share Apple now has in the business could have been stifled by their carrier exclusivity. I think Apple will see the light soon, but that is another discussion.

Enter Android. Google has held a different stance on their mobile OS. It is not tied to a choose not many devices, and it is open source, so it may be more developed by manufacturers who use it. Indeed, some number of mobile device manufacturers have now latched onto Android as a foundation for many devices. Wireless carriers that have been unable to carry the iPhone have also taken a liking to it. Now, tons of Android devices have been released, and there is no end in sight. Manufacturers have also seen the iPad’s possible and now they want a part of that pie, too. Expect to see many more Android tablets and media centric non phone devices soon. The competition is heating up.

But not everything with Android, nor with iOS, is perfect. I own an EVO 4G, one of the most liked Android devices now available. I have also used an iPod touch nearly every day for almost two years, so I am pretty qualified to share my experience with each platform. Both surely have their part of distinctive offerings, and neither of them are without faults. For this reason, and due to rising competition between the two, I plan to dispel many of their key differences for you at different points in this review.

===== So What Can the iPod Touch really Do? =====

Well, what can not it do?

The iPod touch is like a magical little box, only it is flat. While it can not cook your breakfast, still (I’m sure someone is already working on that), it can indeed do many pretty surprising things. It is an amazing catch all device that can supply hours of entertainment, give you the power of the Web in your hand, and it can replicate the functionality of many one off merchandise. Developers have been creating apps that take benefit of special hardware of the iPod touch to emulate many. Read more ›

5.0 out of five stars Senior Citizen Review of Ipod Touch, April 30, 2011
By Sanjosemom See all my reviews This review is from: Apple iPod touch 8GB (4th Generation) Black Current variant (Electronics) I bought my Ipod Touch 8G in January just for fun and to see what all the fuss was about. I use a laptop and have wireless connectivity in my home. But I do not store music on an Ipod and do not have “smart” cell phone. After using the Ipod Touch for some months, all I can say is “WOW”.

This device is like carrying a small computer in your pocket. I can connect to the internet wirelessly at home and anywhere I can find a public connection library, restaurant, etc. I check my email (read and compose), facebook, Meetups, Ravelry, take pictures and movies, and with the Skype App, can video call my kids. I became hooked on the mad Birds game, which is fun to do while waiting anywhere. I have also downloaded audio books from my library to take with me when I travel. I knit and have any pattern I’m working on loaded on my Touch so I do not worry about losing it. All this in a 2×4 inch little device I can carry with me everywhere.

I considered to get a smart phone instead, but Verizon’s extra monthly cost of $30/month for internet access turned me off. It could be nice to have internet access where ever I’m, but I do not need it and do not want to pay $360/year for it. I like the fact that the Ipod Touch doesn’t require any extra monthly costs.

I compared my Touch to my friends Ipad. It appears that my Touch does most everything the Ipad does, but the Touch is so much smaller.

My son has a Droid, which does what my Touch does plus it’s his cell phone. But games wear his battery down quickly. I do not have to worry about that since my phone is separate from my Touch. And I think my screen is a little bigger and sharper.

If I required to be connected to the internet at all times and have a cell phone too, I could most likely stick with a smart phone and pay the extra $30/month. But if you want a versatile tool in a small package to carry with you, I greatly recommend the Ipod Touch.

So much fun!

5.0 out of five stars This thing rocks!, September 8, 2010
By MDTenoso See all my reviews This review is from: Apple iPod touch 32GB (4th Generation) Black Current variant (Electronics) This review is from someone who never owned any Apple merchandise before, married, healthcare professional, blackberry and palm TX owner (yeah I know, belongs in a museum), I looked for a handheld internet browser by wifi, no monthly fees for two years, with camera, video, and apps that i can use for my work, and put in my pocket and it led me to this device. This is so a totally un technical, layman’s review.

1. Delivery time: I has been supposed to get this September 10 14 with the regular shipping, but I got it today, maybe because I ordered it once Steve Jobs finished presenting, so this deserves more than five stars!

2. Dimensions/looks: I really favor the “handling” of the bigger and heavier third gen that I borrowed, its all smudge now without any cover, but boy! this is the most beautiful handheld device that I ever held, four stars for being smaller and lighter and smudgy.

3. Display: The retina display is amazing! Like reading from a glossy magazine, and yes you can not see the pixels! five stars!

4. Wifi: Sync with ATT wifi no problem, wifi in gym no problem, monthly fees no problem! five stars!

5. Internet Browsing: Hard to type in the addresses firstly, but pages loads super fast (the longest was inside thress onethousand all news channels), surfed the web with no problems, make pages bigger or smaller. This gets five stars also.

6. Speed (Processor): this thing is super fast, web pages load inside three seconds, downloading apps inside 30 secs, youtube in a flash, the email attachment that opened in one minute in my computer took only ten seconds! five stars indeed!

7. Camera: grainy, won’t use it for any vital event, only for quick I need a camera times, it’ll not replace my dSLR, but since it wasnt there in the last gen, and I only use my dSLR and nothing else, this camera is still a bonus it gets four stars.

8. Apps for work/”work”: I already downloaded four useful apps for work for free! plus five other free games for me and my three year old kid, the fact that I can now have apps without an iphone/ipad is great, the fact that its free is sweet! five stars!

8. Video: 720p HD! And I bought a Vado HD that does nothing else! Quality is up to par! five stars!

Overall, I have a device that surfs the net very fast, manages my email, has a camera, great HD videocam, great free apps for work, that looks beautiful, and is great to look at, that I got one week early, what more can I ask for?!!! Worth every penny and deserves five stars!

And it stores and plays music too?! And has facetime?! And maps?! I feel like I paid for a Toyota and got a Lexus!

Will purchase another one for my kid so she doesnt have to borrow mine!

5.0 out of five stars Bumpin Bass, Style, and Audio Quality, October 13, 2010
By Shane M. Peyton “shaneomac” (ohio) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) I have to admit I was a bit cynical buying these headphones as the last generation Dr. Dre Beats solos got many poor reviews by an overpowering bass and poor build quality. Considering this price point I assume many of buyers need the same things I was in a pair of headphones: high fidelity sound, great build quality, and style. Upfront these new HD Solo headphones represent in all there groups.

High Fidelity:
I tested these headphones out in some number of genres since I listen to an eclectic mix. 1st thoughts was I found the sound a little too tight and not broad enough. There needs to be an initial burning in period to get the full sound quality, lets say eight hours or so of heavy listening and these bad boys find their sweet spot.

The 1st cd in the mix Keds of Leon Only by the Night I put on ‘Sex on Fire.’ You get many nice high notes and kick drum beats in this song also as many killer electric guitar. What impressed me was how sweet the vocals were by clearness and vibrato while letting the instrumentals shine through. I like my music deafening and clear, and these delivered. The kick drum literally vibrates your head with every beat while keeping the mids and highs spot on!

The next cd up was many Lil’ Wayne I’m Not A Human Being. I put on the 1st track ‘Gonorrhea.’ Damn boys and girls this is where the Solo Beats HD shine, pow pow, like bass so far gone you wonder is there an earthquake in my head. Followed up by a great generating of the electrical beats and smooth bellowing vocal licks and you know these headphones just busted out a five star review hands down.

I wanted to slow this rate down with many acoustical guitar from my man Ray LaMontagne. So I’ll round out this fidelity review with his live performance of ‘Empty’ off his new cd Gossip In The Grain. I figured if these headphones could fall short, no doubt it could be on a song like this. The breathy vocals and pedal steel guitar on this track gave the Solos HD many difficulty. I seriously doubt this could be obvious to most listeners. I found the instrumentals to be a bit spacey on the low registers with the speakers focusing more shine on the highs. If I were to judge the solos completely on this performance I could still give them four stars.

I also watched an episode of “Glee”, yeah I said “Glee” Boss! It sounded excellent. Crisp dialogue and nice full body generating of the song performances. Mercedes preformed a rendition of ‘Rag Doll’ from Tina Turners old release and it sounded phenomenal. In general I found the sound quality to be excellent and all encompassing across the many genres of music and vocals.

The build quality and style of these headphones was equally remarkable.

I know there were many last issues with the head band snapping in the Solos, but they seem to fixed that with a metal band that’s hidden below the padded head rest. The band seem to has many of give and flexibility while feeling firm. I was most impressed with the tightly fitted hinges where the ear pieces fold out and the thick metal used to extend the ear cups. When expanded the ear cups don’t fold but firmly remain in their locked position. The padding around the ear is the softest synthetic vinyl I have ever felt and could pass for calf skin leather. The headphones feel soft and supple around the ear. On the head they feel firm, nearly too firm at 1st but do loosen up like a good pair of shoes over time while stile keeping their rigidity . I think this is a true sign of build quality. After breaking them in they feel very comfy on the ears and I have a pretty big head.

The ‘Control Talk’ cord is in one word, perfection! it’s long but not too long, red in color and has a thick rubber skin. The 3.5mm L shape adapter on the end is idea for plugging into a music player or laptop as it bends inward and carefully stays out of the way. I cant count the number of headphones I have had that fray or break off because of jutting out and being pulled, bent, or rubbed to death. I like how I can lay back in bed and type on my laptop with out my headset jack pushing against my forearm on the side, a big plus. The other end plugs into the head phones making this a removable cord which is nice as it may be replaced independently of the headphones. The ‘Control’ talk feature is awesome. You have a volume up and down function also as a small steel(not plastic but steel) button in the center that you click once to pause or answer a call, twice to skip forward, three times to skip rearward. This can only work on certain devices though. If you have a mac it’ll also control your volume and playback features in itunes which rocks! It worked great on my macbook pro and my ipod touch third generation. Though to get the song to skip I had to click twice with many quickness, but it did work.

The finish is done in the same shiny black on these as the Studio by Dr. Dre beats. Simply put these look cool as all get out. The brushed aluminum trim work on the ear cups is a nice touch also as the beats log on each side. I didn’t find fingerprints to be that most of an issue on the gloss finish at all. They do include a red microfiber cleaning cloth. In summation, yeah sure for cheaper you could get equal or better quality sounding headphones. Check out Shure 440′s or many Koss PortaPros if your tight on cash and want good sound quality with less concentrate on style. But as far as Bass, Style, and Audio Quality goes, check these bad boys out! I greatly recommend them! I got mine on the cheap for 169 at Buydig dot com with a ten dollar coupon (BDRewards10) check it. Or Google them. All the music mentioned above may be bought right here on Amazon.Com.

5.0 out of five stars Much improvement over the regular Solos, December 9, 2010
By Drew Huebner See all my reviews () This review is from: Monster Beats Solo High Def On Ear Headphones with ControlTalk (White) (Electronics) I’m in no way an audiophile, I have not the money or the time to be, but I’m knowledgeable in the neighborhood caused by many of research and friends. I found it disheartening when I looked up reviews for the Beats Solo HD because most of them were 14 year old boys or simply people who have never upgraded beyond apple headphones. That is to be projected though from this product. For the price, yes you may be able to purchase cheaper headphones that sound better

Amazon.Com/Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Headphones/dp/B000065BPB

And are much cheaper. BUT the cord is spiraled and if you’re trying to go out in public with this, they not only look uncomfortable, but they feel uncomfortable when trying to change songs just walking around. With the cord bouncing everywhere. They are not made for on the go.
THIS is the major reason I am writing this review. Purchase something else if you’re going to be inside all day or working in a studio, I could not suggested the Solo HDs for sitting around the house or work Exclusively depending on the price.
If you do want to listen to music in public places aka public transportation, university campus, dog walks, ect. Then I could have to go with this pair.
I think I watched every youtube video review on this pair and many say they’re bulky/flimsy, but in reality, they’re pretty small and the “flimsy” feeling people complain about is the cups shaking around when they are not stationed on your head. Let me be clear, they’re plastic yes, and they make plastic click noises when you’re waving them about yes.But the plastic is lasting in the HD edition ( I know this man seems an idiot, but its a good example of the new chemical compound used to make the HD variant . )
And is not going to snap like the regular Solos. As well, the clicking is a need because the cups must move freely to be able to position themselves on a range of heads.

The sound really is superb on these though. I know majority of people out there do not know about the upgraded sound in the HD edition. Not sure why Monster has not been marketing that these sound much better.Because after much reading around the web.It looks like nearly everyone reads “Solos” and thinks “AHHH TOO MUCH BASS, ITS CRAP AND MUDDY”. Looks like they could want to change that.
I can tell you, coming from someone who knows that Bose is a scam and tricked the mass of buyers into thinking they supply “the best” sound available, that these do not compare at all. They should honestly be in comparison to real headphones, still the audiophiles disregard them as “brand name” so oh well.
I dont listen to rap, or hip hop. I listen to indie rock, classical, folk, and the like, which nobody who reviewed them looks to listen to, so for those out there who DO, these will significantly improve your music listening.

Tl;dr
Get these if you want to listen to music in public, get something else if you primarily will use headphones at home.

3.0 out of five stars Great bass but over priced for quality, August 10, 2010
By J. Gilliland “anmldr2b” See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) The Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD headphones I believe are ok. I am no audiophile but I do appreciate music and have a great ear for hearing slight differences. I newly bought these after having my Bose on ear headphones for some years (was happy with them) and decided to attempt the solo hd’s because they’re both on ear models and looked for a new pair. Having compared the two for a while now I’ll be returning the Solo HD’s for some reasons. This review is to compare the Bose on ear and the solo hd’s

Style: give it to the monster beats, sleek design with gloss finish. You’ll definately be noticed with the headphones and not in a bad way.

Portability: monster wins with this again. Both come with carrying cases. While I do like the bose because the case looks more duable the collapse able design of the beats is a bit smaller and has a small sleave to fit the cord into. Speaking of cords the monster cord that comes with the beats is much better than the bose. Just purchase holding/looking at the cord it’s way more lasting, tangle free, and gold plated. Monster also makes a perfect length cable also. The bose cord I found for me, got tangled easily, thing, and does not seem half as lasting.

Sound: This goes to the BOSE headphones. While the beats has a good bass and it is not distorted it is lost when it comes to hearing highs and the treble seemed a little off. I listened everything from R&B to hip hop and the beats amazed. Then I listened to many classical, pop, and rock. The beats lost me when it came to those genre’s and it was nearly like a “muddy” sound, not as crisp. I listen to the same songs using the BOSE and it was a clear difference as the mids/highs were much better in the BOSE. The BOSE bass may be a bit distorted though when it came to hip hop/r&b songs. Drums/hi hats/symbals/bass in the beats were crisp and I heard some drums sounds in songs I had never heard before but everything else, again felt muddy and not as good as the BOSE.

Comfort: I wear headphones many when traveling and sitting at my desk listening to music. The BOSE win in this one as the padding on the ears are comfy and I can wear them for hours. The monster beats put too much pressure (and I have a small head. Six 1/2 hat size) on my ears and were uneasy after about an hour and a half.

Bottom line: If you are used to using come with mp3 player or cheap headphones this is a good upgrade, and if you are looking for a fashionable headset and have $180 to spare go for it. I suggested trying out the headphones for a bit (best purchase you may be able to return them inside 30 days as long as there’s no damage) and see if you like them and compare them to something alike. Personally I’m still going to use my BOSE on ear and look for something different. On ear headphones.BOSE definately. I’ll be trying out the Monster Beats Studio to see if they’re better than the Solo HD’s.

5.0 out of five stars The BEST NR headsets period, September 27, 2011
By FreeSpirit See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER) This review is from: Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic sound Cancelling Headphones NEWEST MODEL (Electronics) I decided to cheap out earlier and bought a pair of Sony NR headsets for $30 and change. They seemed pretty good but on flights, the NR was not good enough way too much background sound. I decided to man up and get the real deal. And boy, what a change (for the better)!

With the Bose headsets, NR means NR, they ain’t kidding about when they say NR, totally no background sound on the flight. My fast thoughts on this so far:

You have not heard true HD sound if you have not heard it on this headset. And the sound isn’t like bass or treble heavy, it is just crisp and you may be able to hear every water drop and every single instrument being played. And NR works great both ways on this headset the bordering sound is nearly cancelled out totally for you when you are using the headsets, and the sound of the sound from the headset does not perform of the headsets either. I can listen to music or movies at a pretty high volume and the person sitting beside me will not hear a thing.

The leather trim around the headsets makes them very comfy to wear. I wear them on 15 hour flights and do not feel any strain by the end of the flight. My ears or head do not hurt due to headsets and the plastic strap. They really are made for comfort.

It comes with airplane adapter so you may be able to turn it from a single 3.5mm audio cable into one that fits in the airplane sockets. The cable is removable totally from the headset, which I really find useful when I want to doze off and not be bothered by bordering sound. You do not realize how efficient the headsets are till you take them off and realize how most of background sound they eliminated!

The only one downside of this headset is that it runs on a AAA battery. So I generally have to be sure I have completely charged batteries with me at all times. I carry rechargeable batteries (Sanyo Eneloop are the BEST) with a charger. If I do run out of battery, I can generally charge it on the flight itself. ON a full charge of the Eneloop AAA, I’m still to run out of battery on a 15 hour flight.

Yes, these headsets are not cheap but they’re worth every penny. Bose puts so much research and effort into developing their merchandise, I have totally no reason to complain!

4.0 out of five stars Bose QC15 and Sennheiser PXC 450 and Audio Technica ATH ANC7b, August 23, 2011
By Joshua Brooks See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic sound Cancelling Headphones NEWEST MODEL (Electronics) Bose QC15 and Sennheiser PXC 450 and Audio Technica ATH ANC7b

Disclosure: I tried all these on an airplane. I’m not an audiophile. Sound Cancelation is the most vital attribute to me.

The Carrying Case: All three are quite lasting and inflexible.
1.) Bose the smallest, a low profile, room for an Ipod, accessories too.
2.) Sennheiser Square form, low profile, but not many of room for anything else in case.
3.) Audio Technica Nice big case if you want to carry extra stuff (Nintendo DS, ipod, etc).

Build Quality:
1.) Sennheiser you may be able to tell this is built well. Strong plastics, good parts, thick cord. Top notch. You feel like you’re to get something really high quality.
2.) Audio Technica Nice hard construction, appears lasting.
3.) Bose If this had a Sanyo logo on the side, I could not flinched. How can something $300 be so very cheaply made.

Size:
1.) Bose as far as over the ears go, they are pretty small.
2.) Audio Technica mid sized.
3.) Sennheiser they are big. No question, but they store flat.

Comfort:
1.) Sennheiser comfy, will fit nearly any size ears. Keep on for hours.
2.) Bose Also comfy. I didn’t experience “highs” discomfort.
3.) Audio Technica Perfectly acceptable. Bigger opening than last AT model.

Sound:
1.) Sennheiser I really wore these at home too, simply to hear parts of songs I had never heard before. F. My 10yr old music collection sounded totally NEW.
2.) Audio Technica Well balanced, good sound.
3.) Bose Great sound, but heavy on the bass. I listen to many of rap and pop, so it was mildly annoying. I finally had to turn my treble settings up on my ipod to balance the sound.

Features:
1.) Sennheiser nice cord, push to talk button (temporarily mutes NC and sound which is great for interruptions on airplanes).
2.) Bose/Audio Technica just the basics. Bose simply an on/off switch.

Price:
1.) Audio Technica $150 to $225 based on how you shop.
2.) Sennheiser $200 to $275
3.) Bose Hard to find below $300+.

Noise Cancelation:
1.) Bose No question here, far surpassed the other two. Best sound Cancelation.
2.) Audio Technica Good sound Cancelation.
3.) Sennheiser Not sure what happened here. Unbelievable sound, acceptable sound cancelation.

Summary:

I finally kept the Bose because I was only using these for flying and the Sennheiser’s (as much as I loved them) let me down in the sound Cancelation department. The Sennheiser’s had by far the most superior sound, but the Bose sound Cancelation was night and day. The Bose are made badly for a $300+ product, it disappointed.

Final assessment:

Audio Technica best balance of value for money
Sennheiser Best sound and comfort
Bose Best sound Cancelation

5.0 out of five stars great for air travellers, June 24, 2011
By Tailgater See all my reviews This review is from: Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic sound Cancelling Headphones NEWEST MODEL (Electronics) I bought the Bose QuietComfort 15 sound Cancelling Headphones about a month ago and am completely impressed far.

Sound Quality: As odd as this may sound, I feel like I have not ever listened to any of my songs! This headset totally revamps every song. You’ll hear things in many of your beloved songs you have not heard before. As it says in the title, this is an acoustic headset so do not expect deafening and powerful base. If you like many of base then this is not the headset for you.

Noise Cancelling: I find that I can still hear people talking while I’m on a plane but most of the background sound goes away. I could describe the sound as if you’re underwater or plugging your ears, to get you an idea of the sound. When you play many light music in the background, all the people talking tend to dissappear. I take up anywhere from 50 to 100 flights in a year and now that I own a Bose headset, I could not imagine not having it with me.

Comfort: The headset is very comfy with leather around the ear and the leather on the top of the headset. This makes it comfy for long periods of time. I used to use ear buds and found that my ears started to hurt after 30 minutes. The only thing I’ll talk about is that your ears do get a bit hot a sweaty after a while so it’s good to give them a breath of new air every hour or so.

Carrying Case: In this box comes with a carrying case to help protect your Bose headset. This was a big selling feature for me because with all the travelling I do, I has been worried about ruining my headset. This lets me to put the case in my bag and not have to worry that I’m crushing it. Great addition Bose!

Cord: though this headset is not wireless, it has a removable cord which I find useful. If you do not want to listen to anything, do not attach the cord and you may be able to relax with sound cancelling feature. If you do want to listen to music or watch a movie, attach the cord. Easy.

Batteries: The headset runs on (1) AAA battery which fits right into a nice place on the headset. I keep another AAA battery in my carrying case just in case it dies while I’m travelling. I have not had to replace the battery still and I used it for quite some flights. I’m impressed with how long it lasts!

Airplane connector: Bose also included an airplane connector which many airlines still use. I have not find a time I have had to use this but it surely is nice to have if I need it.

Downfalls: There is not much I could change about the Bose QC 15 but the most vital one could be that I can not listen to music if my battery is dead. Again this has not happened to me but if my battery were to die, I can not listen to music. You must have the sound cancelling feature on to listen to anything. Other than that, there’s nothing I could change.

Price: This headset is quite pricey so it is not meant for the average person. There are other headsets that I could recommend. But if you’re the kind of person who travels many of find yourself in places where the sound bothers you (ie train, bus, etc), this is the headset for you.

Well done Bose, you turned my into a believer and I could not imagine travelling without my calm Comfort 15!
